James designed our pool and our back and front gardens and did an amazing job. The pool had to be fitted into quite a tight backyard and he came up with an incredible design that has people constantly commenting on not only the look but also the clever use of space. We absolutely adore it. When it came to the garden design James was a patient (I'm indecisive) and deeply knowledgable source and the end results are low maintenance green spaces that we just love. James is a pleasure to work with - he is responsive and friendly - and I would unreservedly recommend him.

The Seyffer Designs team offered the most impressive and professional experience for myself and my partner. We didn’t know where to start or what to ask for with our backyard space and they walked in and treated it like their own. Thank you for making it as welcoming and comfortable as it is today!

Landscape design concepts for award-winning landscapes and gardens

Selecting the right combination of plants can bring homes and gardens to life. It can be the catalyst to transform a space from good to great, however, some aspects of the landscape can be overshadowed by the plant selection process and forgotten. Great landscape designs take everything into account, from what to plant, to where to plant and when.  For example, it’s important to make sure when planting that you allow for the mature width and distance. Planting too close can put plants under stress and prevent them from flourishing which may lead to additional, unnecessary costs. Also, keep in mind the smaller the plant, the quicker they adapt to your conditions and aren’t put under as much stress as well established. You will also find the smaller the variety, the faster they tend to grow. Typically when we design a landscape, we’ll look to include a combination of both young and well-established plants to balance out the immediate needs of the aesthetics of the project, with the long terms needs of happy, healthy gardens. After all, there’s nothing like enjoying warm weather in an inviting outdoor space that’s full of lush greenery.

February Tree of the Month: the versatile Silver Birch

Whether you are designing a courtyard in Coburg or an acreage in Trentham, this tree has it all! Centrepiece, backdrop or fence line, the Silver Birch adds instant value to any landscape, garden or outdoor space. Just like the runway in Paris, many trees and plants go in and out of fashion all the time. That simply is not the case with the Silver Birch, a timeless classic, it will serve as a stunning addition to your home and garden for years to come.

In a small garden, it stands alone perfectly, with its feature bark and structured branches, providing beautifully filtered shade in summer (3-5m wide) and being deciduous, it yields the much-wanted sunlight in winter. No need for a corten feature/sculpture when you have a Silver birch, just add feature lighting, and let the bark do all the talking!
